With The Mars Volta on indefinite hiatus, the principal creative forces of that band, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, recruited Dave Elitch on drums and Flea on bass for a new project that opted for a more direct approach than their proggier efforts. Tapping into punk, alternative, and even surf rock, this new entity released a single album of catchy, driving earworms (with a second album sadly sitting in limbo). With the limited number of songs, I’ve reduced this to my five favorite songs from this supergroup curiosity.
