Pioneers of the desert rock sound combining sludgy guitars with psychedelic flourishes, Kyuss put Palm Desert on the map and branched out into several memorable projects (Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator, Slo Burn…) after their disbandment in the mid-90s. Their DIY ethic was luckily complemented by their raw talent, as they managed to create spacious and vivid soundscapes in their short existence. These are my favorite songs from Southern California’s desert wanderers.
